Betting on the Los Angeles Rams
The Rams had their first loss of the preseason this past Saturday when narrowly fell to their neighboring team, Los Angeles Chargers, 21-19. It was still very encouraging, though, as they scored the last 19 points and shutout the Bolts in the last three quarters.
For the preseason finale, we should continue seeing Sean Mannion as the most used quarterback in the team, with official starter Jared Goff still playing sparingly. The 25-year-old Mannion completed 16 of his 29 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown in the loss, and it pushed him to be fourth in the league in passing yards this preseason.
The “Coops” – Pharoah Cooper and Cooper Kupp – will be the main weapons of the aerial attack. They have combined for 18 catches and 219 yards in their last three games, with Kupp also having one TD grab. Helping them and the QBs in the backfield, meanwhile will be Justin Davis and Malcolm Brown, who are powering together for almost 60 yards per game on 4.1 yards per carry.
The Rams defense are allowing the 280.3 yards (seventh in the league) and 17.3 points per game.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers
The Packers are also returning from their first defeat of the preseason, which can be surprising considering the lowly numbers on both sides of the field. They bowed to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, 20-17, as they allowed 20 unanswered points across three quarters.
Not much change can be expected from the Packers for their final preseason game of 2017, with fourth-year backup Brett Hundley being the QB that plays the most snaps. He is 37-for-55 (67.3 percent) for 383 yards in three games (two touchdowns and one interception).
The receiving corps will have the likes of Jeff Janis, Max McCaffrey, and DeAngelo Yancey, while backfield may have Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery. Do note, though, that this squad is unlike the Packers’ potent offensive barrage during the regular season, as no wideout, running back, or tight end has more than 83 yards. The team is also just 28th in total yards per game (264).
As for the defense, it’s hot-and-cold. Although they are inside the top 10 in rushing defense (78.7 per game), they are in the bottom five in defending the pass (240 per game).
Writer’s Prediction
The much-experienced second unit of the Packers (-3.5) edge out the young Rams, 23-16.
