Betting on the Miami Hurricanes (1-0)

Point Spread: -14.5

Brad Kaaya is no longer under center for Miami to direct the offense, but who really cares when his replacement, Malik Rosier, is going to be as good as he did in the Canes’ season opener. Rosier passed for 217 yards and three touchdowns without a pick during Miami’s 41-13 decimation of Bethine-Cookman Wildcats.

The Wildcats weren’t exactly the type that’s going to threaten Miami, however. (Miami was favored by 46 points entering the matchup.) The Hurricanes are expected to see a tougher game ahead with Arkansas State blocking their path their Saturday, but they might as well let Rosier’s supporting cast, particularly the running backs, get plenty of touches against the Red Wolves, who gave up 225 rushing yards in their loss to Nebraska last week.

We’re talking about the pair of Mark Walton and Travis Homer, who formed an unstoppable backfield combo in the Bethune-Cookman match in which they combined for 256 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns (both from Walton).

Serious attention will have to be given by the Hurricanes’ defense to Arkansas State’s passing game that made the Red Wolves hung around the Cornhuskers longer that what many expected.  Defensive back Malek Young kicked of his sophomore season on a good note, as he recorded a solo tackle and most importantly, an interception against the Wildcats.

The Hurricanes are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.

Betting on the Arkansas State Red Wolves (0-1)

Point Spread: +14.5

Although they lost to Nebraska in Week 1, 43-36, the Red Wolves have made it clear at least in that game, that they’re from being mere cannon fodders for bigger programs.

As 14.5-points underdogs in the Nebraska game, the Red Wolves rode the gun-slinging Justice Hansen, who went 46 of 68 for 415 passing yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions.

Hansen and the Red Wolves’ passing attack exposed the vulnerable Nebraska defense, and a repeat of that merciless air raid by Arkansas State could be in the offing this Saturday. Although Hansen had a pair picks in the Cornhuskers’ game, that shouldn’t deter him from going air-crazy against a still-warming up Hurricanes’ secondary that had to replace four senior starters from last season. Against Bethune-Cookman, Miami’s defense got burned for 229 passing yards. The Wildcats even went 2-for-2 on fourth down defense.

Obviously, the Red Wolves need to fix their run defense that was thoroughly abused by the Cornhuskers. Senior Kyle Wilson arguably was the best defensive piece for the Red Wolves last week, as he led the team with 10 total tackles (3 solo).

The Red Wolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five games when they were underdogs by at least 10 points.

Writer’s Prediction
