Betting on the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-10)

Panthers head coach Kevin Stallings has been tinkering nonstop with his lineup but nothing seems to work. Stallings deployed his 14th unique starting lineup last Tuesday on the road against the Syracuse Orange but still got a 59-45 loss – Pittsburgh’s six defeat in a row. That said, Stallings might have stumbled upon a new weapon in freshman Parker Stewart, who nailed seven three-pointers against Syracuse. Parker and the Panthers should find their rhythm back on offense versus the Blue Devils’ defense that looks like Swiss cheese with all its holes. That said, Steward only had 10 points and the Panthers shot just 33.3 percent from the field in their first game against Duke this season that ended in an 87-52 loss.

Duke is allowing 66.1 field goal attempts to opponents per game, which is one of the most in Division I basketball. Up against Duke lax defense, the Panthers should also see their turnover go down from the 18 they had in the Syracuse game.

The Panthers are 3-2-1 ATS in their last six meetings with the Blue Devils.

Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (15-2)

The Blue Devils can’t defend to save their life, but they can score to end that of others. Take for example their 83-75 win over No. 25 Miami last Monday, when they erased a 13-point second-half lead by scoring 18 consecutive points. Gary Trent Jr. was a one-mane wrecking crew for Duke, as the guard exploded for 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field with six three-pointers. He could continue his hot scoring on Saturday versus a conference punching bag like Pittsburgh, which has lost all of its last seven road games. The scary thing for the Panthers is that Trent is barely the only one they have to worry about. Duke also has Marvin Bagley III, who leads the ACC in points  (22.0) and rebounds (11.7). Duke is second in the nation with 92.7 points per game and third in rebounding with 43.9. All signs point to a win for Duke, unless they take their foot off the gas pedal.

Bagley had 16 points, while Trent had 14 in the earlier meeting with the Panthers.

Writer’s Prediction:

Duke crushes Pittsburgh, 88-63.
