Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (17-5)
Angel Delgado had huge game the last time out, recording a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds during a 73-57 win over Providence on Wednesday. But perhaps the most outstanding stat from the Pirates in that game was the 19 assists they racked up. The Pirates is going to need that exemplary ball movement to break past Villanova’s concrete defense. Seton Hall is 34th in the nation with 16.3 assists per game and 53rd in points with 78.5. Unlike other teams, Seton Hall benefits from having several options on offense instead of relying on one or two players for most of their points. The Pirates have four players who are averaging at least 13.2 points per game,. They are being led by Desi Rodriguez with 17.3 points per game. The biggest concern for Seton Hall, however, is how to defend against Villanova’s soul-crushing offense. If anything, the Pirates’ win over Texas Tech (89-79) showed that they could hang with an elite offense while also being able to score a lot against a great defense.
Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (20-1)
How do you stop the Wildcats? No one knows, except probably Butler, which has so far the only win this season against Villanova. Other than the Bulldogs, no team has ever solved Villanova’s offense and defense. The Wildcats are fourth in offense with 87.8 points per game and keep their opponents to only 69.1 points per contest. In their 98-78 win against Creighton on Thursday, Villanova had all its starters scoring in double figures or no fewer than 11 points each. The backcourt tandem of Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson have been too much for opponents this season, and will likely to be two-man headache for the Pirates. Brunson is averaging 19.4 points and 5.0 assists per game, while Bridges is pouring in 17.7 points and grabbing 6.0 rebounds. Outside shooting has been stellar for Villanova which has four players with at least 40 treys so far this campaign with Brunson and Bridges combining for 102. They had nine of Villanova’s 19 three-pointers against the Bluejays. Villanova is second nationally with 11.5 threes per game on a fantastic 41.4 percent clip.
Writer’s Prediction:
