The Minnesota Vikings have every reason to feel excited of their Super Bowl chances in 2018. For one, they have a shiny new quarterback in Kirk Cousins. As for the Denver Broncos, they are on a mission to regain respect and relevancy after a crashing and burning in 2017. At press, NFL Futures list the Vikings at +550 to win the NFC and the Broncos at +1400 to win the AFC.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (+1)
The Vikings have a new face under center, with Kirk Cousins in tow. However, Cousins is unlikely to take plenty of snaps this Saturday against he Broncos. Instead, expect former Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian, Kyle Sloter, and undrafted rookie Peter Pujals to rotate in slinging the rock. In 13 games, including 11 starts last season with Denver, Siemian passed for 2,285 yards to go with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Running back Dalvin Cook, who sustained an ACL injury last season, can also see some series against the Broncos to further gauge how ready his body is. Of course, this being a preseason game, deep-end guys like Mack Brown, Thomas Roc, and Michael Boone will receive plenty of playing time.
The Vikings have covered the spread in six of their last 10 preseason games.
Betting on the Denver Broncos (-1)
Case Keenum provided a feel-good story for the Vikings last season, but this time, he’s on the other side of the fence, as he’s now with the Broncos. Keenum is projected to be the Broncos’ starting quarterback after signing a two-year, $26 million deal with Denver back in March. Keenum can see some action this Saturday, but Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly will have the highest usage rates under center, as the two compete for the QB2 role. Over at the backfield, expect the Broncos to heavily feature three rookie running backs in Royce Freeman, Phillip Lindsay and David Williams. Meanwhile, on defense, the Broncos will parade much-hyped rookie pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who is expected to form a scary tandem with Von Miller up front.
The Broncos are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four August games.
Writer’s Prediction
It’s not the nail biter that the sportsbook would have you think (1-point spread), with the Vikings stomping the Broncos 27-6 in this preseason matchup.
