Betting on the Carolina Panthers (3-1)

The Panthers improve to 3-1 following a nail-biting 33-31 win over the New York Giants at home in Week 4. That’s a nice way for the Panthers to send themselves into a bye. Well-rested and brimming with confidence, the Panthers will look to notch their third win in a row this coming weekend. Everything seems coming along for the Panthers, as they are about to get back three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis after he served a four-game suspension. Apart from that, there’s also the likelihood that star tight end Greg Olsen will return to action after missing games due to a lower-body injury. Olsen’s return should be huge for the Panthers, who are only 25th in the league with 210.8 passing yards per game and 12th with 26.0 points per contest. In any case, the Panthers will continue to feed their backfield that is tops in the NFL with 154.0 rushing yards per contest.

The Panthers are 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Washington Redskins (2-2)

Redskins quarterback Alex Smith said his team needs to look itself in the mirror following an embarrassing 43-19 road loss to the New Orleans Saints last Monday. For running back Adrian Peterson, however, he needed a doctor to take a look at him first after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the Saints game. The good news is that Peterson expects to play, as MRI results of his shoulder showed no serious damage.  That said, wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson are still questionable for Week 5 because of ankle and heel injuries, respectively. Smith, however, is still a capable quarterback, especially when up against a questionable pass defense such as that of the Panthers. Carolina is allowing 280.5 passing yards per game and Smith has wideout Maurice Harris and star tight end Jordan Reed. Reed only had a catch and 21 yards against New Orleans, but he should find success against Carolina, which has allowed touchdowns to opposing tight ends twice in separate games this season.

Washington is 5-1 ATS in its last six home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Carolina wins, 23-20.
