The 3-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are wallowing in the bottom of the NFC South division, which they are +5,000 to win. But they still have time to get out of it and a win this coming Sunday against the streaking Carolina Panthers (+300 to win the NFC South) will boost the Bucs’ chances to make the playoffs. Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-4)

Fitzmagic is back. That’s right. With Jameis Winston turning into a walking interception machine since getting his job back as the starting quarterback, Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter has already announced that the team is turning to Ryan Fitzpatrick again as the starter – at least for Week 9’s matchup with the Panthers. Winston threw a touchdown and four interceptions in last week’s 37-34 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on the road before he was replaced by Fitzpatrick, who passed for two touchdowns and a successful two-point conversion try. Fitzpatrick has had success early in the season, thus the Fitzmagic mania, and the Bucs are willing to bet on hi again. However, it takes more than that to win against Carolina. Among the Bucs’ priorities is to tight up their pass protection. Part of the reason why Winston struggled in the Bengals game was that he was under constant pressure in the pocket, taking five sacks for a loss of 20 yards. Still, despite Winston’s interceptions and sacks taken, the Bucs managed to score more than their season average of 28.7 points per game – a clear sign that no team can sleep on the Bucs’ offense.

The over is 4-0 in Tampa Bay’s last four road games.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (5-2)

Watch out. The Panthers are starting to get their groove. Over their last two games, they have beaten contenders in the Philadelphia Eagles back in Week 7 on the road (21-17) and the Baltimore Ravens at home in Week 8 (36-21). Carolina quarterback Cam Newton has seemingly gotten on a rhythm, as he has thrown four touchdowns with zero interceptions to go with a rushing score and 101 rushing yards in the team’s last two games. The best may yet to come for Newton and it’s fair to assume that it’s going to happen this weekend, as Tampa Bay has arguably the worst defense in the entire league. The Buccaneers are allowing 33.3 points and 415.3 total yards per game — 32nd and 29th in the league, respectively. The Panthers may be facing a very capable offense this weekend, but their stop unit can find an easier job containing Tampa Bay with Bucs’ rookie running back Ronald Jones out. Carolina is surrendering 21.7 points per game and 20.0 over its last three contests.

The Panthers are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Carolina wins, 31-23.
