Betting on BC Lions (1-4)
The Lions entered Week 5 feeling good about themselves after finally notching their first win of the season by defeating the Toronto Argonauts on the road in Week 4, 18-17. However, the fun was short-lived, as they absorbed a crushing 33-6 defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Eskimos at home in Week 5. The Lions could not get anything going offensively against Edmonton, coming up with only 177 total yards. Lions quarterback Mike Reilly went 17 for 26 and finished with just 157 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception. Reilly needs to do better, but also, his protection unit will have to be ready, as Saskatchewan’s pass rush is not a joke. The Roughriders have 12.0 sacks on the season. The Lions are averaging just 325.6 total yards per game, 20.4 points, and 229.0 passing yards.
The under is 2-0 in the Lions’ last two games overall.
Betting on Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-3)
The Roughriders are having some rough time this season. They entered their bye in Week 5 following a demoralizing 37-10 home loss to the Calgary Stampeders. Maybe an extra week of rest will help Saskatchewan, which is set to play BC again in Week 7. Against the Stampeders, former Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo let the ball fly for just 89 passing yards with two interceptions. The Roughriders also did not get anything encouraging from Isaac Harker, who chipped in 72 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. Fajardo is serving as the Roughriders’ temporary starter while Zach Collaros remains out with a concussion. With that, the Roughriders’ ground attack will also have to step up. Kryan Moore leads the team’s third-rank run game that averages 115.0 rushing yards per contest. Moore has 304 rushing yards on the season while three other Roughriders have each at least have 149 rushing yards.
Saskatchewan is 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Saskatchewan wins, 29-23.
