Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (1-0 Preseason)
At least for one game, Seahawks quarterback Paxton Lynch looked like a first-round pick. Against his former team in Week 1 of the preseason, Lynch went 11 of 15 for 109 passing yards and a touchdown in a 22-14 win over the Denver Broncos at home. Lynch was slicing through the Broncos’ defense, which also failed to stop the quarterback from producing 38 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries. With this strong performance, he takes a step closer to winning the backup quarterback battle against Geno Smith, who went 3 of 9 for 58 passing yards. Lynch can increase his chances of winning that competition in the coming weeks, especially with Smith out for some time to recover from a minor knee surgery. With Smith out, the Seahawks could see an appearance by Russell Wilson, though, it’s not something that should be expected.
The Seahawks are 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 preseason games.
Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (1-0 Preseason Record)
Applying a new offensive scheme, the Vikings looked fantastic with Kirk Cousins running the show for a brief moment. Cousins went 4 of 4 for 65 passing yards and a touchdown in Minnesota’s 34-25 road win over the New Orleans Saints back in Week 1 of the preseason. Sean Mannion took over the quarterbacking duties along with Kyle Sloter and rookie Jake Browning once Cousins was done under center. Mannion had 102 passing yards and a touchdown on 7-for-13 completions. The Vikings will continue featuring rookie running back Alexander Mattison, whose role on the team could be bigger once the regular season starts than what most people think. Even with Dalvin Cook as the team’s starting running back, Mattison should still ample work, partly because of his ability to make things happen in passing plays.
The Vikings are 2-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last two preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
