Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
The Steelers wanted to see improvement on defense, and they showed that they’re trending towards that direction during their 17-7 takedown of the Kansas City Chiefs at home in Week 2 of the preseason. Pittsburgh’s pass rush was effective, sacking Chiefs quarterbacks three times for a loss of 17 yards. So effective was the Steelers’ stop unit, that it nearly held Kansas City scoreless in the first half of the contest. Linebacker Bud Dupree was ready to play, recording a sack and batting down a pass. That kind of energy will benefit the Steelers against the Titans. On offense, Joshua Dobbs and Mason Rudolph will continue their battle for the backup job behind Ben Roethlisberger, though, Dobbs didn’t help his cause by throwing an interception against Kansas City.
The Steelers are 3-0-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four preseason games.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (1-1)
The consensus in the football world is that Marcus Mariota is the starter for the Titans, but there are silent ramblings that there’s actually a quarterback competition for the team with Ryan Tannehill coming over to Tennessee. If that’s the case, Mariota has the pressure to look good in the remaining preseason games. In last week’s 22-17 home loss to the New England Patriots, Mariota went 6 of 9 for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Tannehill completed 7 of 11 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, tight end Delanie Walker saw action for the first time since suffering a season-injury early in the 2018 campaign, and his return was a triumphant one, hauling in two receptions — including a touchdown — for 26 yards. Tennessee is averaging 22.0 points in the preseason and 234.5 total yards per contest.
The under is 3-0-1 in the Titans’ last four preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
