Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-2)
This time, the Bucs got the job done. After squandering an 18-point lead in a home loss to the New York Giants in Week 3, the Bucs made a big statement, smashing the Los Angeles Rams on the road last Sunday, 55-40. Quarterback Jameis Winston detonated for 385 passing yards and four touchdowns against an interception on 28-of-41 completions. Chris Godwin bounces back from a silent game against the Giants and went off for 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 12 receptions and 14 targets. Mike Evans, meanwhile, had 89 receiving yards and a touchdown. The combo of Godwin and Evans downfield is a headache for opposing secondaries and defensive coordinators. Winston will surely be looking for them in Week 5, especially with the Saints’ defense allowing 279.2 passing yards per game — just 23rd in the league.
The Bucs are 3-0-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four road games.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints (3-1)
The Saints are having success without Drew Brees, as backup Teddy Bridgwater is doing a fine job covering for the future Hall-of-Famer quarterback. In Week 4, the Saints defeated the Dallas Cowboys at home, 12-10. Bridgewater is not Brees, but he’s a stabilizing presence nonetheless. So long as he’s completing passes and letting Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas involved, the Saints are going to find ways to score. Kamara had 29 rushing yards against the Cowboys, while Thomas had 95 receiving yards on nine receptions. Bridgewater, Kamara, and Thomas didn’t score a touchdown, but they brought the offense close enough for Will Lutz to score four field goals. But one thing the Saints need is thicker protection for Bridgwater. Dallas took Bridgewater down five times, which slowed the Saints’ attack. The Saints are averaging 21.0 points and allows 23.0 points per game.
The Saints are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games. They are also 3-2 ATS in their last five meetings with Tampa Bay.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bucs win, 29-23.
