The Auburn Tigers have been hit with gut-wrenching losses of late, but if they are to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive, they can’t afford to lose to the Ole Miss Rebels. As for the Rebels, a win over Auburn could jumpstart their campaign for a postseason berth.

Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (3-5 Overall / 2-3 Conference)

A ticket to a bowl game is seemingly further from the reach of Ole Miss after the Rebels lost to the Texas A&M Aggies at home last Saturday, 24-17. That being said, there are still opportunities for them to convince the committee that they are worthy of postseason play, especially if they can take down Auburn this coming weekend. The Rebels were just a touchdown and an extra-point short of forcing overtime against Texas A&M and their other two losses against ranked teams were proof that they can’t be taken lightly. Ole Miss scored 31 points in the loss to then No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa back in late September and lost by only eight points to then No. 23 California Golden Bears a week prior to the ‘Bama game. Ole Miss’ defense can be stingy, particularly against the run, as the Rebels are fifth in the SEC with 124.25 rushing yards allowed per contest.

Ole Miss is 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last four games.

Betting on the Auburn Tigers (6-2 Overall / 3-2 Conference)

Auburn wasted a golden chance to score a huge win to compensate for its loss to the Florida Gators two weeks earlier, as the Tigers fell to No. 2 LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge last Saturday, 23-20. Auburn quarterback Bo Nix went just 15 for 35 for 157 yards and a touchdown with an interception. He ran for a score, but was a -16 on the ground on nine carries. Ole Miss’ inconsistent defense should be more lenient towards Nix, though, The Rebels are allowing 26.7 points per game and over 414 total yards per contest. It would have been an entirely different (and better) story for the Tigers had they played with more discipline in the LSU game in which Auburn committed a total of 15 penalties for 98 yards. If the Tigers could clean those unnecessary errors up, they will be in a great position to win — and cover — against Ole Miss.

The Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games.

Writer’s Prediction

Auburn wins, 33-21.
