Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (8-7)

The Eagles took control of the solo lead in the NFC East with a 17-9 home win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16. Carson Wentz had an efficient game, going 31 for 40 for 319 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions. But Philly’s defense deserves bigger credit, as they stalled Dallas’ offense. They didn’t allow Dallas to score a touchdown while also limiting wide receiver Amari Cooper to just 24 receiving yards on four receptions out of 12 targets. Ezekiel Elliott also managed just 47 rushing yards on 13 carries (3.6 rushing yards per carry). In the upcoming rematch against the Giants, Philadelphia is confident it can hold down Saquon Barkley and company. After all, they let Barkley compile just 66 rushing yards on 17 carries in the first meeting with the Giants this season, which was a 23-17 home win back in Week 14. On offense, the Eagles could get a boost with running back Jordan Howard expected to return to action in Week 17 after missing several games due to a shoulder injury.

The Eagles are 2-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last two games.

Betting on the New York Giants (4-11)

Daniel Jones put the league on notice on Week 16 with a performance that’s one of the best by a rookie quarterback — ever. Jones completed 28 of 42 passes for 352 passing yards and five touchdowns in the Giants’ 41-35 road win over the Washington Redskins last Sunday.  Jones fed his receiving corps non-stop. Golden Tate finished with a game-high 96 receiving yards on six catches, while Barkley had 90 receiving yards with a touchdown to go along with 189 rushing yards and a TD on 22 carries. Barkley will look to put up a better effort and numbers in the rematch with the Eagles. The Giants’ defense needs more work done after giving up that many points to Washington, but it can have an easier time dealing with the Eagles’ attack in Week 17, as Philly tight end Zach Ertz is currently questionable for that game. Also, Jones has one cornerback to worry about, as Eagles defensive back Ronald Darby has been placed on the injured reserve.

The Giants are 3-0 ATS in their last four games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Giants win, 24-23.
