Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (10-4 Overall/1-2 Conference)
The Wolverines could not get their rhythm on offense and as a result, picked up a bitter-tasting 87-69 road loss to rivals Michigan State Spartans last Sunday. Michigan went just 25 for 69 for a 36.2 percent shooting and also drained just five 3-pointers on 23 attempts. The Wolverines have a date with the Purdue Boilermakers this Thursday, so they have a chance to regain their shooting touch before taking on the Golden Gophers. The Wolverines are averaging 78.3 points per game this season, as of this writing, and are normally an excellent and efficient team on offense. Michigan is 10th in the nation with a 55.5 effective field goal percentage and 32nd with a 37.5 percent shooting from behind the arc. Michigan has five players averaging at least eight points, led by center Jon Teske, who is putting up 14.4 points per game,
The under is 2-1 in Michigan’s last five road games.
Betting on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-6 Overall / 2-2 Conference)
The Golden Gophers bounced back from a gut-wrenching 83-72 overtime road loss to the Purdue Boilermakers last week by beating the Northwestern Wildcats at home on Sunday, 77-68. The Golden Gophers flexed their muscles on the glass in that game, massively outrebounding Northwestern, 43-28. Minnesota got a double-double performance from Daniel Oturu, who had 19 points and 16 rebounds to go with five blocks in 36 minutes of play. Oturu is powering Minnesota inside and is a big reason why the Golden Gophers are averaging 40 rebounds per game. That’s not a good sign for Michigan, which is not a good rebounding team, ranking just 117th in the nation with 36.7 boards per contest.
Minnesota, which battles the Spartans on Thursday in Ann Arbor, is 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in it last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Minnesota wins, 67-64.
