Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-6 Overall / 2-4 Conference)

Another game, another double-double for Fighting Irish forward John Mooney. The senior forward extended his double-double streak to 11 games by scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds with three steals and two blocks in Notre Dame’s 78-74 road win over the Georiga Tech Yellow Jackets last week. The Fighting Irish will take on the Syracuse Orange at home this Wednesday before traveling to Tallahassee to meet the Seminoles. Mooney is leading the Fighting Irish in points (15.4) and rebounds (13.9) per game. The Fighting Irish play a very disciplined style of basketball, which explains why they are excellent in turning the ball over. It’s also responsible for Notre Dame taking away chances for its opponents to score on freebies.  Notre Dame is averaging just 9.8 turnovers per game — second-fewest in the nation. In addition, the team is committing the least fouls per contest with just 12.1.

The Fighting Irish, who are averaging 75.1 points per game, have seen the total go under in seven of their last 10 games away from home.

Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (16-2 Overall / 6-1 Conference)

The Seminoles continue to find their groove, as they have extended their win streak to nine games following their 83-70 overtime win on the road over the Miami Hurricanes last Saturday. The ‘Noles will come into their game against Notre Dame with fresher legs than the Fighting Irish, who will only have two full days of rest after their date with Syracuse, while Florida State will be playing on the heels of a six-day layoff. If anything, rust could be a bit of an issue for the ‘Noles, though, that should be negated by them feeding off the energy of their home crowd. The Seminoles are 10-0 straight-up (SU) and 5-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games at home. The Seminoles’ defense is nothing to scoff at. They are ranked 19th in adjusted defensive efficiency on KenPom. They play in-your-face defense that forces opponents to cough up the ball 18.7 times per game — fourth-best in the nation. Sophomore guard Devin Vessell has scored 41 points in the Noles’ last two games.

Writer’s Prediction

Florida State wins, 72-62.
