The ‘Tank for Tua’ project last season turned in the desired result for the Dolphins, as they got their man in the form of the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft. However, Tua Tagovailoa has to wait a little bit longer before he gets the keys to the starting duties under center from veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. With improved talents in the skill positions on offense (addition of Matt Breida and Jordan Howard in the backfield) and a little sturdier offensive line, the Dolphins are expected to play better than they did a year ago when they ranked 25th in scoring with 19.1 points per game. In their last game of the 2019 season, the Dolphins scored a 27-24 shock win in Foxboro, as Fitzpatrick passed for 320 yards on 28-of-41 completions to go with a touchdown, while wide receiver DeVante Parker had eight receptions for 137 receiving yards.
The Dolphins are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.
Betting on the New England Patriots (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Tom Brady is gone in New England. But his replacement under center for the Patriots is another known quarterback in Cam Newton, who used to be among the elite signal-callers in the league and is now looking to prove that he’s still got it. Newton has missed a ton of games over the last few seasons due to injuries. It’s fair to say that he’s no longer the player he was before, but there must be enough juice in him for the Patriots to decide to bring him over to their storied franchise. Downfield, Newton can hook up with the likes of proven veteran Julian Edelman and up-and-coming sophomore N’Keal Harry. The talent right now on the Patriots’ offense should be enough to trouble a team like Miami that is still developing. The Patriots’ defense is also a problem for the Dolphins, as New England has one of the best sets of linebackers plus a solid crew in the secondary that features Stephon Gilmore and Devin McCourty.
The Patriots are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games against Miami.
Writer’s Prediction
The Patriots win, 27-17.
