Regular Season Record: 2-0
The Bears are a serious threat to win the Super Bowl! Ok, we went over the top there, but Bears fans have reasons to be a bit exaggerating this week after Chicago won on Sunday against the New York Giants, 17-13. Mitchell Trubisky got away with 190 passing yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions on 18-of-28 completions against the Giants. There isn’t much to glean from the Bears in that win, as they didn’t score any points in the second half against a banged-up New York defense while also dealing with the Giants’ offense that lost Saquon Barkley in the middle of the game. However, Trubisky can have a much better outing in Week 3, as the Falcons’ pass defense is among the worst this season. In fact, the Falcons are allowing the highest opponents’ pass completion percentage (77.8). The confidence the Bears are bringing to Week 3 after a 2-0 start could be a major factor when they meet a seemingly demoralized Falcons team.
The over is 3-1 in the Bears’ last four road games.
Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-2
By now, the Falcons have heard all the jokes about their colossal meltdown in last Sunday’s 40-39 road loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Up by 20 after the first period and 19 at the half, the Falcons somehow squandered those leads. The loss also resulted in another wasted gem from Matt Ryan, who passed for 273 yards and four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Back in Week 1, Ryan threw for over 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks at home. If the Falcons could get over the frustrations from those two losses, they should be able to put up a solid performance against the Bears. Chicago, particularly its defense, has yet to be tested by an elite passing attack this season, but Ryan and company can make sure the Bears get a taste of one. The Falcons are sixth in the league in scoring offense (32.0 points per game) and second in passing yards (350.5).
The Falcons are 2-1 against the spread in their last three games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Falcons win, 30-20.
