Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-0
The reigning Super Bowl champions are still undefeated, as they defeated the LA Chargers on the road in Week 2, 23-20. The Chiefs, always confident in their ability to put points on the board, had to make a fourth-quarter surge against the Chargers. Patrick Mahomes went 27-of-47 for 302 passing yards and two touchdowns, while the Chiefs’ backfield racked up 125 rushing yards on 22 carries. Kicker Harrison Butker is fast becoming a serious weapon for the Chiefs’ already loaded offense. Butker buried all three of his field-goal attempts against the Chargers, including two he made from 58 yards out. With such a range, the field becomes smaller for Kansas City, which enters Week 3 ranked eighth in the NFL with 28.5 points per game and 13th in total offense with 391.5 total yards per contest. Mahomes should give Travis Kelce plenty of looks once again, as no team has yet to contain the tight end. Plus, Sammy Watkins is in danger of missing the Ravens game with a concussion. Against the Chargers, Kelce had 90 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine receptions and 14 targets.
The Chiefs are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games.
Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-0
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens should run a lot in Week 3’s matchup with Kansas City. The Ravens, who rushed for 230 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries in Week 2’s 33-16 win over the Houston Texans on the road, will be up against Kansas City’s questionable run defense that is just 27th in the league with 150.5 rushing yards allowed per game. Conversely, the Ravens are fourth in the NFL with 170.5 rushing yards per game. The trio of Jackson, Mark Ingram, and Gus Edwards should continue having success on the ground, but the Ravens also have a great passing attack that is averaging 210.5 passing yards per game. However, Baltimore has to protect Jackson in the pocket better after allowing four sacks for a loss of 27 yards against the Texans. The Chargers gave Kansas City a run for its money by being aggressive passing the ball, so that could be something Baltimore can copy this coming Monday Night Football game.
The Ravens are 3-1 against the spread in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Ravens win, 27-24.
