Gardner Minshew and the Jags suffered a 31-13 home loss to the Miami Dolphins in the last Thursday Night Football offering, with the quarterback admitting that Jacksonville committed too many mistakes for them to overcome Ryan Fitzpatrick and company. Minshew threw for 275 yards on 30-of-42 pass completions and committed two turnovers (interception, lost fumble). He was also sacked four times for a loss of 29 yards. To be fair, Minshew didn’t have his best receiver in that game, as DJ Chark missed the contest with upper-body issues.  It remains unknown whether Chark will be ready to play in Week 4, but the extra days of rest could help improve his status in the coming days. Another absence from Chark, however, could mean another heavy workload for rising running back James Robinson. The undrafted rookie rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns in 11 carries against Miami and also caught all six targets for 83 receiving yards. He could be due for a great outing against Cincinnati’s defense that is second-worst in the league with 181.7 rushing yards allowed per game.

The Jags are 2-1 against the spread in their last three road games.

Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (-3)

Regular Season Record: 0-2-1

The Bengals are still winless, but they can afford to crack smiles with how good rookie quarterback Joe Burrow is progressing. In the Bengals’ 23-23 draw with the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, Burrow outplayed former MVP candidate Carson Wentz, as he went 31-of-44 for 312 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception. On the season, the former LSU Tigers star has 821 passing yards and five touchdowns against just a single interception. There’s a long way to go for Burrow and the Bengals before they become at least a playoff contender, but up against the Jags, who just got sliced open by the Dolphins, it’s not a stretch to think that Burrow can continue his upward trend. The Jags are struggling to put pressure defensively on third-downs, with opponents converting 50 percent of the time in those situations. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon can rebound from a 49 rushing-yard performance in the Eagles game, with the Jags’ run defense that allowed 138 rushing yards and two touchdowns to Miami up ahead for him.

The Bengals are 2-1-1 against the spread in their last four games as the home team.
