Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (odds)
Record: 18-6 Overall / 13-2 Conference
Alabama received a shock loss at the hands of the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road Wednesday night to the tune of an 81-66 score. Alabama, one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation, was nowhere near hitting their season average of 80.2 points per game. Alabama did knock down 11 3-pointers on 33.3 percent accuracy but committed 16 turnovers and got slapped with 32 fouls that led to Arkansas hitting 27 free throws on 43 attempts. As for Alabama, it only went 3 of 8 from the foul line. Alabama can get it going again, however, against Mississippi State, a team that the Crimson Tide have whipped before this season. Alabama scored an 81-73 home win over the Bulldogs last January, with the Crimson Tide going 14 of 24 from behind the arc. On the season, Alabama is second in the nation with 10.9 3-pointers on 35.9 percent shooting from the field.
The under is 3-1 in the last four road games.
Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 13-11 Overall / 7-8 Conference
Mississippi State has gotten back on track after consecutive losses to the LSU Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores, as they have defeated the Ole Miss Rebels (66-56) on the road on Feb. 20 and the South Carolina Gamecocks (69-48) at home last Wednesday. The Bulldogs have been shooting better of late, connecting on 49 percent of their shots from the field, and they will look to keep it going against a shaken Alabama team. In the first meeting with the Crimson Tide, Mississippi State committed 15 turnovers, which stunted the team’s offense and gave Alabama numerous extra possessions. Cutting down on those errors will be a top priority for the Bulldogs, though, that’s a problem they have struggled to address all season long. Mississippi State is averaging 15.0 turnovers per game. In any case, DJ Stewart will be a man to watch for this game, as he scored 27 points on 9-of-21 shooting in the loss to Alabama. Stewart leads the Bulldogs this season with 16.6 points per game, while Iverson Molinar is right behind him with 16.5 points per contest.
Mississippi State is 3-0 straight up and against the spread in its last three home games against Alabama.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 75-72.
