Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+3.5)

Regular Season Record: 1-3

The Eagles were clipped in Week 4 by the Kansas City Chiefs in a 42-30 home loss to the reigning AFC champions. Still, Jalen Hurts was able to pass for 387 yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 32/48 completions. He also led the team with 47 rushing yards on eight carries. Philly has now lost three games in a row after winning in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, 32-6, but it continues to show potential with Hurts under center. Carolina’s defense used to be feared, but it had just been torn apart by the Dallas Cowboys. Hurts and the Eagles’ offense can do the same, as they are not lacking in weapons on that side of the field. Hurts has a talented rookie downfield as target in DeVonta Smith who just caught 7 of 10 targets for 122 receiving yards in the Kansas City game. Tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert are huge targets for Hurt against Carolina’s defense that got burned by Dalton Schultz in Week 4.

The over is 4-1 in the Eagles’ last five games after failing to cover the spread in the previous contest.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (-3.5)

Regular Season Record: 3-1

The Panthers got served with a dose of reality in last Sunday’s 36-28 road loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Carolina’s defense was exposed by Dak Prescott and company, but the Panthers might not have to worry as much against Philly, which is making life easier for opposing teams because of its undisciplined play. The Eagles already have 44 penalties this season, the most in franchise history over the first four games of a season. If the Eagles are going to play that way again in Week 5, Sam Darnold should be able to capitalize. Darnold, who’s one of the surprises this season, passed for over 300 yards and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions on 26/39 completions against the Cowboys. He also rushed for two touchdowns. Even without running back Christian McCaffrey (hamstring), Darnold is still finding ways to move the chains, as the Panthers average 24.2 points and 287.5 total yards per game this season.

The Panthers are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
