Betting on the New York Giants (+7)
Regular Season Record: 1-3
The Giants finally put an end to their losing spell, as they came back from behind to defeat the New Orleans Saints last Sunday on the road, 27-21. Daniel Jones passed for 402 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 28/40 completions against the Saints. Jones has looked surprisingly good this season despite the Giants’ losses. To date, he has 1,184 passing yards (7th in the NFL) and four touchdowns with just an interception. He is also leading his team on the ground with 188 rushing yards and two rushing scores. That’s speaking a lot about his capabilities as the Giants’ leader, taking into consideration the fact that Saquon Barkley is back and healthy. Jones can look forward to having success with his legs against Dallas, which allowed Sam Darnold to rush for two touchdowns in Week 4. Kenny Golladay also finally had a good game in Giants uniform with 116 receiving yards on six receptions against the Saints. If he’s really now in his top form, he’ll be a tough cover even for the Cowboys’ rising defense.
The Giants are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games against NFC East teams.
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (-7)
Regular Season Record: 3-1
After defeating the previously undefeated Carolina Panthers in Week 4, 36-28, thus exposing Sam Darnold and company as a mere pretender than a contender, the Cowboys now get their turn to be asked if they are for real. Dak Prescott passed for 188 yards and four touchdowns on 14/22 completions. He also managed to avoid getting picked. Ezekiel Elliott blew up for 143 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against the supposedly stout Panthers defense against the run. Can the Giants stop Zeke? It’s hard to side with the Giants this time since they couldn’t even stop Taysom Hill from scoring two rushing touchdowns in Week 4. Plus, the Giants are 20th in the league with 122.8 rushing yards allowed per game. And also, the Cowboys have the weapons to spread out defenses. Prescott is using his receivers to perfection. Amari Cooper, Dalton Schultz, CeeDee Lamb are taking care of things downfield for the Cowboys, who are averaging 31.5 points per game. Defensively, the Cowboys have a heat-seeking missile in Trevon Diggs, who leads the NFL with five interceptions.
The Cowboys are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cowboys win, 31-27.
