Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (+1.5)

Record: 6-1 Overall / 3-1 Conference

Ole Miss is now 3-0 straight up in its last three games, as the Rebels dominated the LSU Tigers at home last Saturday for a 31-17 win. The Rebels must like the way their defense played against LSU. They have the offense to rely on, but when their defense shows the kind of effort it rolled out in the LSU game, the Rebels can look unbeatable. Ole Miss’ success will always be centered on its offense, with Matt Corral steering the attack. Corral passed for 185 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions and added a rushing score against LSU. Corral is third in the SEC with a passer rating of 168.2. As a team, Mississippi State is third nationally in total offense (541.1 total yards per game) and seventh in scoring with 41.9 total points per contest.

Ole Miss is 5-4 against the spread in its last nine games overall.

Betting on the Auburn Tigers (-1.5)

Record: 5-2 Overall / 2-1 Conference

Everyone seems to lose to the Georgia Bulldogs this season, so there’s no real shame for Auburn in losing to Stetson Bennett and company. The Tigers also recovered from their 34-10 home loss to Georgia by beating the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road on Oct. 16, 38-23. Bo Nix and the Tigers entered a bye in Week 8 off that sweet victory, so they have some momentum going for them heading into the Ole Miss contest. Nix passed for 292 yards and a couple of touchdowns with an interception on 21/26 completions against Arkansas. Even though Ole Miss slowed down LSU, Nix should feel more comfortable facing the Rebels’ defense than in the Georgia game. After all, the Bulldogs arguably have the stoutest defense in the nation, while Ole Miss’ stop unit is inconsistent. (Ole Miss allowed 51 points to Arkansas on Oct. 9.)

Auburn is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Auburn wins, 33-30.
