Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-4)
Regular Season Record: 9-4
The Chiefs showed absolute zero mercy on Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders in a 49-9 home win over their divisional rivals in Week 14. That extends Kansas City’s win streak to six games. A noticeable trend for Kansas City of late has been its defense allowing exactly just nine points in each of the Chiefs’ last three games. At the same time, the Chiefs’ offense has been humming and looking more and more unstoppable each passing week. The Chiefs are looking to avenge their 30-24 Week 3 loss to the Chargers at home in this upcoming meeting. During that defeat to LA, Patrick Mahomes threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns but got intercepted twice. He looked solid the last time out, though, passing for 258 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in the aforementioned win over the Raiders.
The Chiefs are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (+4)
Regular Season Record: 8-5
The main focus right now for the Chargers is to see whether wide receiver Keenan Allen and running back Austin Ekeler will be able to play this coming Thursday. Allen missed Week 14’s 37-21 home win over the New York Giants after getting placed on the COVID-19 reserve list. As for Ekeler, he suffered an ankle injury against the Giants. Ekler came up huge in the first meeting with Kansas City, as he rushed for 55 yards on 11 catches and had 52 receiving yards and a touchdown on six catches. Allen, meanwhile, coveted eight receptions in that game into 50 receiving yards and a score. Like Kansas City, the Chargers are on a groove, having won their last two games and three of their last four. Justin Herbert has the arm to keep up with Mahomes, and he’s set himself up well for the rematch with a solid outing against the Giants, passing for 275 yards and three touchdowns with zero picks thrown.
The Chargers are 5-0 against the spread in their last 5 games in December.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chargers win, 24-23.
