Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 7-6
The Steelers got the job done in Week 15. Coming off a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14, the Steelers recovered right away by defeating the Tennessee Titans at home last Sunday, 19-13, mainly with their defense. Pittsburgh intercepted Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill once and sacked him four times. That kind of defensive tenacity will definitely need to show up for the Steelers against Kansas City for the Steelers to contain Patrick Mahomes and his receivers. TJ Watt, who has 17.5 sacks this season, will be crucial in getting to Mahomes and rattling Kansas City’s passing attack before the ball gets to the likes of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.
The Steelers, who are third in the league in sack rate, are 3-2 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (odds)
Regular Season Record: 10-4
The Chiefs scored their seventh win in a row by taking down the Los Angeles Chargers on the road, 34-28, last Sunday. It was a shootout that saw Kansas City’s defense bend but it didn’t break. Kansas City was also kept alive by its offense which is now averaging 27.5 points per game. Mahomes put up a monster total of 410 passing yards and three touchdowns with an interception on 31/47 completions. Bottling up Kelce and Hill is going to be easier said than done for Pittsburgh. The Chargers’ defense is no pushover, but Kelce still ended up with 191 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 10 catches, while Hill finished with 148 receiving yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions.
The Chiefs are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 24-16.
