Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 16-5 Overall/9-2 Conference
Villanova has revenge on its mind when the Wildcats meet the Golden Eagles again this Wednesday. Jay Wright’s team lost to Marquette at home on Jan. 19, 57-54. The Wildcats shot poorly from deep in that game, as they went 6/24 from 3-point land and also just 37.9 percent from the field overall. Villanova was lights out from behind the arc, though, in its 73-62 win over the Saint John’s Red Storm at home last Saturday in which the Wildcats went 11/23 from the 3-point region. On the season, the Wildcats are 22nd in the nation with 9.5 threes per contest and pairs with that a stingy defense that is allowing only 91.1 points per 100 possessions.
Villanova is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Marquette Golden Eagles (odds)
Record: 15-7 Overall/7-4 Conference
Marquette had its seven-game win streak snapped in a 65-63 road loss at the hands of the Providence Friars last Sunday. After beating the Wildcats, the Golden Eagles scored two more wins, taking down the Xavier Musketeers at home and the Seton Hall Pirates in Newark. When they beat Villanova, the Golden Eagles leaned on their spectacular outside shooting. They shot 13/29 from deep for a 44.8 percent success rate. Can they do it again, while also holding down Villanova’s shooters just like in the initial meeting? On the season, Marquette is No. 1 in Big East play in 3-point shooting percentage and second in opponents’ 3-point shooting percentage. Golden Eagles forward Justin Lewis, who leads Marquette with 16.6 points per game, scored 21 points in the win against Villanova.
Marquette is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
