Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (odds)
Record: 15-4 Overall/6-2 Conference
After a shaky 1-2 start to Big East play, the Huskies, Dan Hurley’s team has now won five conference games in a row. That includes their 57-50 win against the DePaul Demon Deacons on the road last Saturday. Connecticut will now look to extend its win streak to six games when they face the Creighton Bluejays this Tuesday at home. Then the Huskies shift their focus on a marquee matchup against Villanova. Connecticut is powered by a three-headed attack by RJ Cole, Adam Sanogo, and Tyrese Martin, each of whom is putting up at least 13 points per game. Cole leads the team with 16.1 points per game, while Martin is a 44.2 percent shooter from deep. Apart from them, the Huskies are also succeeding because of their tremendous rebounding. In fact, they are third in the nation with 42.3 boards per game and No. 1 overall with 12.8 offensive rebounds per contest.
The Under is 4-0 in Connecticut’s last four games as the home team.
Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 16-5 Overall/9-2 Conference
Villanova’s outside shooting has been on target this season, especially of late. The Wildcats went 11/23 from deep in their 73-62 home win against the Saint John’s Red Storm last Saturday. It’s the third game in a row in which Villanova made at least nine 3-pointers on at least 39 percent shooting. The Wildcats will look to keep their 30-point shooting red hot when they face the Marquette Golden Eagles in a rematch this coming Wednesday. Even against a tough defensive team like UConn, the Wildcats should be able to pick their spots on offense. Villanova likes to play at a very slow pace just like the Huskies, but are more efficient on offense. The Wildcats are sixth nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency and are second in Big East play with a 52.1 effective field goal percentage.
Villanova is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Villanova wins, 67-61.
