Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (odds)

Record: 24-4 Overall/13-4 Conference

Purdue did allow the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to make it part of their historic run, as the Boilermakers stopped Ron Harper Jr. and company in an 84-72 home win Sunday. Jaden Ivey was simply too much to handle for the Scarlet Knights, as he scored 25 points in 39 minutes, while Zach Edey had 15 points and seven rebounds in just 18 minutes. Purdue, as it usually does, flexed its muscles on offense against Rutgers, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and going 24/29 from the foul line. The Boilermakers are fifth in the nation with 82.2 points per game and also the owners of the most efficient offense in the nation, per KenPom. This is also a pretty tall team that has 6-4 Ivey at the point and a 7-4 center in Zach Edey, whose backup is 6-10 Trevion Williams.

Purdue is 9-1 straight up in its last 10 games as the home team.

Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (odds)

Record: 18-8 Overall/9-6 Conference

Michigan State is slumping at the moment, having lost four of its five games. The last time they were on the floor, the Spartans absorbed a 79-74 loss at the hands of the Illinois Fighting Illini at hime last Saturday. The Spartans have a chance to get back in the win column with a date this Tuesday against the Iowa Hawkeyes before turning their complete attention to the Boilermakers. A slow start doomed Michigan State against the Fighting Illini, as the Spartans trailed at the half by 12 points. They can’t allow to get buried that deep early by a Purdue team that owns an efficient attack. That’s where Michigan State’s defense will have to step in, as the Spartas are fourth in Big Ten play in adjusted defensive efficiency and third in opponents’ effective field goal percentage. The Spartans are also great at protecting the rim, with 7-footer Marcus Bingham in the middle. They have the size to match up with Purdue’s bigs, with Bingham, Julius Marble in the frontcourt.

The Over is 3-1 in Michigan State’s last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Purdue wins, 74-71.
