Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (-5)
Record: 22-4 Overall/11-4 Conference
Defense saved the day for Purdue in its 62-61 win last Sunday at home over the Maryland Terrapins. Boilermakers forward Trevion Williams made a crucial block late in the game to seal the deal for Purdue, who won but failed to cover the spread as a double-digit home favorite. Sasha Stefanovic led the way on offense for Purdue with his team-high 17 points, and he will look to keep it going in the second meeting with Northwestern. In the first one, he sizzled for 22 points and drained six threes to pace the Boilermakers into an 80-60 home victory. Purdue’s offense can explode in any given game. After all, the Boilermakers are among the highest-scoring teams in the nation. The Boilermakers are fifth in the nation with 82.6 points per game and third with 58.4 effective field goal percentage.
Purdue is 5-4-1 against the spread in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Northwestern Wildcats (+5)
Record: 12-11 Overall/5-9 Conference
Northwestern had something good going until the Wildcats suffered a 73-68 road loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini last Sunday. Before that stumble, the Wildcats recorded three straight wins, with victories over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Indiana Hoosiers. This is also a team that took down the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing back in January. Northwestern isn’t a pushover, and it could potentially make life hard for a team like Purdue, which barely got by Maryland. The Wildcats’ peskiness on defense is causing troubles for their Big Ten opponents. In fact, they are No. 1 in opponents’ non-steal turnover rate (10/1%) and second in opponents’ turnovers percentage (19.1%).
The Over is 5-2 in its last seven games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Purdue wins, 78-70.
