Betting on the New York Jets (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Jets fans saw a familiar result in their team’s Week 1 outing against the Baltimore Ravens at home. With Joe Flacco starting, the Jets absorbed a 24-9 loss at the hands of Lamar Jackson and company. The Jets heavily relied on the arm of Flacco, who went 37/59 for 307 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception. There still is a long way to go for New York’s offense to be even good, and that might not start happening until at least Zach Wilson returns from injury. That being said, the Jets can keep up with Cleveland in Week 2. The Browns also did not look terrific in Week 1. An upset win against Cleveland isn’t a wild expectation, to say the least, for New York.
The Jets are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games against Cleveland.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
The Browns got the better of their former quarterback, Baker Mayfield, as they took down the Carolina Panthers on the road in Week 1, 26-24. Cleveland nearly choked the game away but was ultimately saved by a late-game 58-yard kick by Cade York. Nick Chubb also proved to be hard to stop for Carolina’s defense, as he rushed for 141 yards on 22 carries. Kareem Hunt also had a big game, with a touchdown each via ground and through the air. The Browns are not going to reach the ceiling of their offense until at least Deshaun Watson’s return from suspension, but against the Jets, any level of attack might be good enough to abuse them.
The Under is 5-1 in the Browns’ last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 27-17.
