Betting on the New England Patriots (-1)

Regular Season Record: 0-1

The most important thing to monitor over the side of the Patriots heading into Week 2 is the status of quarterback Mac Jones, who went to the X-ray room after a 20-7 road loss to the New England Patriots in Week 1. The X-rays, however, came back negative, so there’s really probably nothing to worry about that. While his X-rays are clean, the Patriots’ offense was not in Week 1, as they had three turnovers (not to mention that they failed on their only fourth-down attempt) against Miami. If anything, most of the issues the Patriots had in Week 1 can be fixed right away. And there’s probably no one better at making game-to-game adjustments than Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

The Patriots are 5-5 against the spread in their last five road games.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (+1)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

The Steelers eked out a 23-20 overtime win over the reigning AFC champions Cincinnati Bengals on the road in Week 1. It wasn’t a sexy win for Pittsburgh, but it’s still a victory that gives the Steelers momentum heading to Week 2. However, it came at a high price apparently, with star linebacker TJ Watt reportedly suffering a serious upper-body injury. It’s likely that Watt would miss at least Week 2’s date with New England, which would be a punch in the gut for the Steelers. That said, Pittsburgh’s stop unit remains to have plenty of talent to go around. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Myles Jack combined for 24 tackles and two passes defended in Week 1, while Alex Highsmith had three of the Steelers’ seven sacks.

The Steelers are 3-0 against the spread in their last three home games.
