The Carolina Panthers are done with Matt Rhule, as he is no longer the head coach of the franchise after getting fired following Week 5’s 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at home in Week 5. The Los Angeles Rams are not doing much better, as they are now on a two-game losing skid. They are coming off a 22-10 beatdown at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 and would love to win one before entering a bye in Week 7. Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+10.0)
Regular Season Record: 1-3
Baker Mayfield is not looking like the answer for the Panthers and he will not be able to try to change that perspective in Week 6. Mayfield is injured and it’s likely that PJ Walker is going to start for the Panthers at least for the game against the Rams. In any case, the offense of the Panthers will have to continue relying heavily on running back Christian McCaffrey. Walker also presents some upside on the ground for the Panthers, who are averaging just 18.6 points per game. There could be more success for Carolina’s defense against the Rams, who’s got one of the worst pass protection in the NFL this season.
The Panthers are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games after a two-digit loss at home.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (-10.0)
Regular Season Record: 2-3
The Rams’ offense hasn’t been very good this season. They are just averaging 16.0 points per game and 299.8 total yards per contest, 28th and 26th overall, respectively. That being said, they should feel much more comfortable with their quarterback than Carolina. Matthew Stafford may not be being protected well in the pocket, but he clearly has the edge over Walker. Plus he’s surrounded by deeper talent on offense, led by wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is second in the NFL with 527 receiving yards to go with four touchdowns on 49 receptions.
The Rams are 13-5-1 against the spread in their last 19 games after suffering a two-digit loss at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rams win, 23-13.
