Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 5-6
Marcus Mariota has been a pleasant surprise this season. He passed for a touchdown and rushed for another in Week 11’s 27-23 home win over the Chicago Bears to snap a two-game losing streak. He might have to do more, especially on the ground, if tight end Kyle Pitts gets sidelined for at least one game. Pitts appears to have sustained a knee injury in the Bears game, so his status will have to be closely monitored. Atlanta’s backfield can lead the way for its offense since the Falcons are a top-five team in terms of rush play percentage. With Mariota, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Tyler Allgeier, the Falcons can burn a hole on Washington’s run defense.
The Falcons are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Washington Commanders (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-5
The Commanders are reportedly going to stick with Taylor Heinicke in Week 12. That means they will continue to run what has been working for them of late. In their most recent outing, the Commanders beat the Houston Texans on the road in Week 11, 23-10. But before that, they scored their biggest victory of the season, taking down the previously undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on the road, no less, in a 32-21 win back in Week 10. Washington’s defense is also becoming more and more of a problem for the league, and it’s one the Falcons will have to deal with this week.
The Commanders are 5-4-1 against the spread in their last 10 games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Commanders win, 22-20.
