Betting on the Miami Dolphins (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 8-7
There’s a chance that the Dolphins will not have Tua Tagovailoa on the field in Week 17 versus New England, with the quarterback entering concussion protocol following Miami’s 26-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers at home last Sunday. The Dolphins have now dropped four games in a row after winning five straight from Weeks 7 to 12. If Tagovailoa can’t go, the Dolphins will likely turn to Teddy Bridgewater to start for them under center in the rematch versus the Patriots. In four appearances this season, Bridgewater has 522 passing yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. Whichever quarterback starts for Miami in Week 17, he’ll have the fantastic duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle downfield. Hill had 94 receiving yards on eight catches, while Waddle recorded 69 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions in Miami’s 20-7 win over the Patriots at home back in Week 1.
The Over is 5-1 in the Dolphins’ last six games away from home.
Betting on the New England Patriots (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 7-7
Like the Dolphins, New England has had a rough past few weeks. The Patriots are just 1-4 straight up in their last five games, including their 22-18 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. In that game, Mac Jones had an up-and-down adventure in the pocket. He finished with 240 passing yards and two touchdowns on 21/33 completions. He did not throw an interception but got sacked four times for a loss of 16 yards. He can find a way to carve up Miami’s defense which has been leaky lately, with the Dolphins allowing at least 26 points in three of its last four games.
The Patriots are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 home games versus Miami.
Writer’s Prediction
The Patriots win, 24-21.
