Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs prevented an upset loss in Week 17, as they defeated the Denver Broncos at home last Sunday, 27-24. Mahomes passed for 328 yards and three touchdowns with just an interception on 29/42 completions in that game. It’s just so difficult to beat and overpower the Chiefs when Mahomes is healthy and playing. The Raiders know all about that because they lost to the Chiefs in Week 5 at Arrowhead Stadium, 30-29, despite having a lead as big as 13 points at one point in the contest, Mahomes had 292 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 29/43 completions to lead the Chiefs past Las Vegas, which has the second-worst defense against the pass this season, allowing 246.8 passing yards per game.
The Chiefs are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games versus a team with a losing record at home.
Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+9.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-10
Another week, another collapse for the Raiders, who went with Jarrett Stidham as their starting quarterback and had success before melting again. The former Auburn Tigers quarterback, however, did show some flashes in Week 17. Stidham passed for 365 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions on 23/34 completions in the Raiders’ 37-34 loss at home last Sunday to the San Francisco 49ers. He’s unlikely to outplay Mahomes, but Stidham could punish Kansas City’s defense that isn’t so sturdy as well against the pass. Kansas City is just 20th in the NFL with 22.3 points allowed per game and 26th only with a 1.72 percent defensive interception rate. Davante Adams, who had 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns on seven catches in Week 17, posted 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns on three receptions in the loss to the Chiefs earlier this season.
The Raiders are 6-0 against the spread in their last six games versus a team with a winning record.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 27-24.
