Betting on the Houston Texans (+3.0)
Regular Season Record: 2-13-1
After winning just their second win of the season in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans on the road, the Texans went back to their losing ways in Week 17 when they fell prey to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home last Sunday, 31-3. Yeah, they are not in great shape and they only have two wins this season to date, but any team, even the Texans, will always have a shot at taking down a seemingly listless Indianapolis team that will start a rarely-used, unproven quarterback in Week 18. Houston, on the other hand, will have Davis Mills, who passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in Week 1’s 20-20 tie at home versus Indianapolis.
The Texans are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games versus AFC South division teams.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (-3.0)
Regular Season Record: 4-11-1
Jeff Saturday is looking more and more like a bad choice to be head coach of the Colts, who are coming off a 38-10 road loss to the New York Giants in Week 17. Nick Foles started for the Colts in that game but an injury ended his night, leading to Sam Ehlinger taking over the rest of the way. Ehlinger, who will start in Week 18, had 60 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 9/14 completions versus the Giants. Houston’s defense can quickly turn into Ehlinger’s punching bag, given that the Texans are 26th in the NFL with 24.3 points allowed per game.
The Colts are 14-5-1 against the spread in their last 20 games after scoring fewer than 15 points in their last outing.
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 23-20.
