Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 15-11 Overall/8-7 Conference
Duke is back in the win column. The Blue Devils, after consecutive losses to the Miami Hurricanes and the Virginia Cavaliers, recovered last Tuesday, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home, 68-64. Kyle Filipowski showed up to play versus the Fighting Irish, as he paced the Blue Devils with 22 points. There was not much scoring support behind him, though, so that’s something Duke would like to see against Syracuse. On the season, the Blue Devils are averaging 71.4 points per game, which isn’t elite nationally, but their rebounding is.
Duke, which is 10th in the nation with 39.5 rebounds per game, has seen the total hit the Under in six of their last 10 outings.
Betting on the Syracuse Orange (odds)
Record: 19-7 Overall/8-7 Conference
Syracuse is heating up. The Orange has won three games in a row now. They are coming off a 75-72 home win against the NC State Wolfpack last Tuesday at home. Against NC State, Syracuse’s defense shone. The Orange limited NC State to only 41.7 FG% and forced the Wolfpack to turn the ball over 12 times. This season, the Orange are second in ACC play in defensive steals rate and No. 1 in defensive blocks rate. The Orange play a kind of defense that doesn’t offer plenty of opportunities for the opponents to get to the line, which could take away chances from Duke to get easy points.
Syracuse is 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 71-69.
