Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 16-15 Overall/10-10 Conference
Villanova had a pretty nice ending to its regular season, as the Wildcats turned things around in the second half of conference play. One thing Villanova has been consistent with this season is at beating Seton Hall. The Wildcats have defeated Georgetown in both meetings back in the regular season and they will look to continue their dominance of the Pirates in the Big East tourney. The last time these two teams met, Villanova had five players scoring at least 12 points, led by Caleb Daniels, who finished with 16 points in a 77-73 win over Georgetown on Jan. 16. Although the Wildcats aren’t the elite team they used to be in previous seasons, they can look like one when sharing the court against a bad team like the Hoyas.
Betting on the Georgetown Hoyas (odds)
Record: 7-24 Overall/2-18 Conference
Say what you want to say about the Hoyas, but it played Villanova close in the last meeting, as mentioned earlier. They looked way more competitive in that game than they did when the Wildcats blew them away in a 73-57 home loss on Jan. 4. Assuming that trend stands, we can expect Georgetown to provide a much tougher resistance this time around amid the threat of Villanova to take the Hoyas out of contention in the Big East tourney. If the Hoyas are to score a win against Villanova this coming Wednesday, they will need an excellent performance from Primo Spears, who leads the team with 15.9 points per game. He had 19 points on an efficient 8/13 shooting in the second meeting with Villanova.
Writer’s Prediction
Villanova wins, 76-60.
