Line: Colorado Rockies (+150) at Chicago Cubs (-170) – view all MLB lines
Things are going from bad to worse for the Chicago Cubs as they suffered their third consecutive defeat on Sunday, an 11-5 humiliation at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs have now lost five of their last seven games overall as they dropped down to 51-46 in the NL Central standings.
[sc:MLB240banner ]They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the Colorado Rockies tonight. Starting for the Cubs in the series opener is Kyle Hendricks (4-5, 3.66 ERA). He struggled in his last start, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of action in Chicago’s 9-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs are 0-3 in Hendricks’ last three starts.
The Rockies, on the other hand, will counter with left-hander Jorge De La Rosa (6-4, 4.62 ERA). He was rocked in his last start against the Texas Rangers on July 22, surrendering six runs on five hits and two walks in six innings of work. Colorado lost that game, 10-8. The 34-year-old will fancy his chances, though, of delivering a good start tonight. De La Rosa has an incredible 1.93 ERA in six road starts this year.
The Cubs are 4-1 in their last five home games against the Rockies.
Writer’s Prediction
Chicago wins, 4-2.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)

The San Francisco Giants extended their winning streak to five games with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. Third baseman Matt Duffy drove in three runs for the Giants who moved to within a game of the LA Dodgers for the NL West lead. The Giants will look to slice that deficit even further when they lock horns with the Milwaukee Brewers in their series opener later tonight.
Starting for the Giants this evening is Chris Heston (10-5, 3.18 ERA). He was phenomenal in his last start, throwing 7.1 innings of shutout ball in San Francisco’s 9-3 win against the San Diego Padres on July 21. The Giants have now won four of their last six games with Heston as their starter.
The Brewers, on the other hand, will have Kyle Lohse (5-11, 6.29 ERA) on the mound tonight. The Brewers have lost six of their last eight games with Lohse as their starting pitcher. He was tagged for five runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings Wednesday in a 7-5 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
The Giants are 4-0 in their last four home games against the Brewers.
