Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
The Cardinals failed to follow up on their 19-16 home win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 of the NFL preseason with another victory. In Week 2, Arizona fell prey to the Kansas City Chiefs at home, 17-10. Kyler Murray played minimally in that game, throwing four passes and completing two. It’s only the preseason, but Arizona’s offense has some issues on chemistry to address. That’s really what preseason games are for. Murray might be rested entirely by the Cardinals in Week 3, so the bulk of the quarterbacking duties will likely be on the shoulders of Colt McCoy, who went 13 of 18 for 113 passing yards (0 TDs, 1 INT) in the Chiefs game. On a positive note, the Cardinals did force Kansas City to commit two turnovers, including an interception off Patrick Mahomes. That’s a strong message sent to New Orleans’ turnover-prone quarterbacks.
The under is 8-2 in the Cardinals’ last 10 preseason games.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
As mentioned earlier, the Saints’ quarterbacks have been prone to giving the ball to opposing defenses. In Week 1, New Orleans got picked off three times. Ian Book, Jameis Winston, and Taysom Hill each threw an interception in their 17-14 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens. In Week, however, the Saints got much more solid play from the quarterbacks, especially from Winston, who’s probably now a lock to start Week 1 of the regular season. Winston threw for 123 passing yards and two touchdowns. All three quarterbacks had three touchdowns together without a single interception. That’s a good sign for the Saints heading into the preseason finale. Wide receiver Marquez Callaway has also become a lethal weapon of late. He’s picked up 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just eight catches in two preseason games.
The Saints are 6-4 straight-up in their last 10 preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Saints win, 23-20.
