There’s a lot not to like about the Falcons in 2021, which ultimately became Matt Ryan’s last with the franchise he had ever played for up until that point. With Ryan no longer in Atlanta, the Falcons are entering a new chapter with Marcus Mariota installed as the team’s QB1. However, Mariota’s a known commodity and doesn’t offer much to Atlanta’s future. It’s going to be more interesting to see how rookie Desmon Ridder pans out eventually under center for Atlanta, which finished last season just 26th in the NFL with only 18.4 points per game. Another promising newcomer for the Falcons’ offense is rookie wide receiver Drake London, who was taken eighth overall in this year’s NFL Draft. The Falcons would also love to see what they really have in running back Tyler Allgeier, another rookie with intriguing potential to carve out a significant role on the offense that really didn’t have much on the ground in 2021.
The Under is 6-4 in the Falcons’ last 10 preseason games.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
While Jared Goff saw his former team, the Los Angeles Rams take off with the quarterback they traded him for, the Lions stumbled on a weekly basis in the 2021 NFL season. That being said, Goff isn’t the big problem for the Lions who had a lot of it to fix entering the 2022 offseason. And the Lions could be taking flight of their own, beginning in the upcoming season. Goff will have a talented receiving corps that got a boost with the addition of rookie wideout Jameson Williams. Williams, however, is on the non-football injury list, so he’s very unlikely to play against the Falcons. Nevertheless, Friday’s game will be a good time for the Lions’ offensive line to flex its muscle. The Lions are believed to have one of the best protection units in 2022. And then, of course, there’s Detroit’s defense that now boasts of defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the second-0verall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He will have time to shine against the Falcons, who was 20th last season in offensive quarterback sack rate.
The Over is 8-2 in the Lions’ last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lions win, 17-14.
