Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
It might be frustrating for Falcons fans to not see rookie tight end Kyle Pitts play in Week 1 of the preseason, but that’s likely because Atlanta already knows everything it needs to know about the youngster. Pitts could have helped the Falcons’ passing attack though in its 23-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans at home last Friday. Part of the problem for Atlanta was the weak offensive line that gave up five sacks to the Titans for a loss of 31 yards. The Falcons’ offensive line appears to be dealing with issues, but those might not get so amplified in Week 2 against a Miami team that recorded zero sacks in the opening week of the preseason.
The Falcons covered in their last road game in the preseason. Meanwhile, the over is 2-0 in their last two preseason games away from A-town.
Betting on the Miami Dolphins (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Tua Tagovailoa had an encouraging showing in Week 1 of the preseason despite their 20-13 loss on the road to the Chicago Bears. Tagovailoa went 8 of 11 for 99 yards without a touchdown. He threw an interception, but that was the only outstanding product of a lapse in judgement on his part. Tight end Mike Gesicki looked good in that game as well, as he had 56 receiving yards while catching both targets lobbed at him. Lynn Bowden Jr.also flashed some good hands by going 4 of 5 for 47 receiving yards. Miami’s defence was inconsistent but it held the Bears to only 3 of 12 on third downs. There should be more pressure next time, though, for the Dolphins’ defensive line that did not have a single sack against Chicago.
The Dolphins are 2-0 against the spread in their last two home preseason games. The under is 2-1 in Miami’s last two home preseason contests.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 22-17.
