Jameis Winston is back and healthy again, and that’s one of the good things you could say about the Saints. While Winston is never going to be as great as Drew Brees, he’s someone with an always-intriguing boom factor. Last season, Winston Winston led the Saints to wins over the likes of the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and the Washington Commanders. A torn ACL derailed his 2021 season, but he now looks ready to go again. He has some new toys to play on offense with the Saints adding Jarvis Landry and drafting former Ohio State Buckeyes stud wideout Chris Olave. Defensively, the Saints lost some bodies in their secondary with both Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins gone among others, but they also signed the Honey Badger, Tyrann Mathieu.
The Saints, who were fourth last season with just 19.7 points allowed per game, are 4-1 against the spread in their last five outings overall.
Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (+5.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Matt Ryan is no longer in Atlanta, and it will now be Marcus Mariota starting under center for the Falcons. Atlanta fans will need some time to get used to the reality that Ryan is not the starting quarterback of the Falcons anymore, but Mariota provides some upside as well. As a dual-threat quarterback, Mariota could elevate the production of the Falcons on the ground while making the team’s overall offense more dynamic. On defense, the Falcons tried to address their pass rush issues in 2021 by drafting defensive ends Arnold Ebiketie and DeAngelo Malone. But it’s eighth-pick overall Drake London who is providing the most buzz. The former USC Trojans wideout is currently questionable to play because of a knee issue, but if he gets the green light to see action, he’s a fantastic weapon to have for Atlanta’s offense that scored just 18.4 points per game in 2021.
The Under is 4-1 in the Falcons’ last five Week 1 games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Saints win, 30-20.
