Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (-7)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
After going undefeated (again) in the preseason, the Ravens will look to kick off their 2022 NFL regular season with a real victory. The Ravens will have the best quarterback in this game between them and the Jets, with Lamar Jackson all set to run the show for Baltimore, which averaged 22.8 points per game in 2021. Baltimore could be without running back JK Dobbins (questionable), but Jackson, Mike Davis, and Kenyan Drake provide enough weapons on the ground for the team. Plus, there’s wide receiver Rashod Bateman, who is expected to take a big leap in Year 2 of his pro career alongside elite tight end Mark Andrews, who led the team with nine touchdown receptions in 2021.
The Ravens are 5-1 against the spread in their last six Week 1 games.
Betting on the New York Jets (+7)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
After going 4-13 in 2021, the Jets are hoping for much better results this year. That will largely depend on whether Zach Wilson’s improvements. That being said, it’s going to be Joe Flacco starting under center for the Jets in Week 1 versus Baltimore. Wilson is still out with an injury he suffered in the preseason, so it’s the veteran Flacco, who will be orchestrating the offense of New York for now. Flacco should get help from NFL newcomers in wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Hall is coming off a sensational junior year with the Iowa State Cyclones, during which he racked up 1,472 rushing yards with an average of 5.8 yards per carry and three rushing scores. New York also plugged holes in its defense by drafting cornerback Ahmad Gardner (fourth overall) and defensive end Jermaine Johnson (26th overall).
The Over is 10-4 in the Jets’ last 14 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Ravens win, 27-17.
