Betting on the Baylor Bears (16-1 Overall / 6-0 Conference)
The Bears added another team to their list of victims this season by downing the Oklahoma Sooners at home last Monday, 61-57. It’s the 15th win in a row for the Bears, whose tight defense is keying the success the team is enjoying right now. The Bears held Oklahoma to only 35.0 percent shooting from the floor. They outworked the Sooners on the glass, 46-36, especially on the offensive end of the court, as Baylor had 18 offensive rebounds to only 12 by the Sooners. Baylor gets plenty of extra possessions with its relentless mindset in getting the ball off its own misses, which is also why the Bears often dictate the pace of the game. Baylor is sixth in the nation in offensive rebound percentage. Freddie Gillespie is a key cog for the Bears and he showed that with a 12-point, 15-rebound performance in the win over Oklahoma. Gillespie now has seven double-doubles this season. The 6-9 forward leads the team in rebounds with 9.3 per contest.
The Bears are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games.
Betting on the Florida Gators (12-6 Overall / 4-2 Conference)
Just when the Gators appear to be gaining momentum again, they hit another bump in an 84-82 loss in Baton Rouge to the LSU Tigers last Tuesday. Although the Gators hit more triples than LSU (11 to 2), LSU hit 15 more free throws (15 to 9) and was outworked on the glass, 38-28. Keyontae Johnson led the Gators with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kerry Blackshear Jr. chipped in 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Noah Locke also had 16 points with four triples. Florida will have to show better effort in rebounding, especially against Baylor, which is feeding off from its ability to dominate the boards. The Gators’ offense, meanwhile, can keep up with Baylor, considering the talent that they have. Blackshear and Johnson are averaging 14.8 and 12.7 points, respectively, while two other Gators are putting up at least 10.5 points per outing. As a team, the Gators are averaging 74.0 points and are 26th in adjusted offensive efficiency.
The Gators are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida wins, 66-63.
