While Syracuse freshman QB Eric Dungey looked impressive in his debut (355 passing yards, two TDs) under first-year head coach Dino Babers and his fast-paced spread offense, he pales in comparison to Louisville’s own dual-threat playmaker in Lamar Jackson. Jackson amassed 405 all-purpose yards from the air and on the ground and was accountable for eight (!) of his team’s first-half touchdowns against the 49ers.
Writer’s prediction: Fireworks go off in Carrier Dome, with the Cardinals (-14.5) prevailing on the road, 47-30.
UCF Knights vs. #7 Michigan Wolverines (Sep. 10, 12:00 PM ET)

UCF’s 38-0 shutout of the FCS’ South Carolina State Bulldogs came as somewhat of a surprise, considering that the team finished with an 0-12 record last season.
Then again, SC State is no Michigan by a long shot, and the Knights are running straight into a buzzsaw this Saturday. Coach Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines simply dominated the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in Week 1, 63-3, with their offense garnering 511 yards and their frightening D limiting Hawaii to just a field goal to go with two defensive TDs.
Writer’s prediction: Book this as another blowout for Michigan (-36), 58-6.
Utah State Aggies vs. #20 USC Trojans (Sep. 10, 2:00 PM ET)

After the humiliating 52-6 defeat at the hands of Alabama, the Trojans should be thirsty for vengeance this Saturday by taking it out on the visiting Aggies. Quarterback Max Browne (just 104 passing yards and a pick versus the Tide) suffered the jitters in his first start for the team, but that shouldn’t be the case anymore, especially when he has last season’s prolific wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster at his disposal.
However, Utah State’s rushing game could very well push USC to its limit, one that racked up 428 rushing yards in the 45-6 win over Weber State, with all four of the team’s backs having found the end zone. Take note that the Men of Troy just took one to the Achilles by allowing ‘Bama to gash them for 242 yards on the ground this past weekend.
Writer’s prediction: USC notches its first win of the season, but the Aggies (+16.5) hang tough and cover the spread, 34-24.
Arkansas Razorbacks vs. #13 TCU Horned Frogs (Sep. 10, 7:00 PM ET)

While most of the teams that were featured prior to this matchup came away with resounding victories, the first win for the Razorbacks and the Horned Frogs over their respective Week 1 opponents, lowly programs in Louisiana Tech and South Dakota State, were harder to come by.
Still, TCU’s new starting QB Kenny Hill showed what he was capable of, throwing for 439 yards and two TDs and rushing for three more scores versus the Jackrabbits. On the other hand, Arkansas’ supposedly potent ground game was nowhere to be found, with the team rushing for a just 106 yards against the Bulldogs after averaging 197 rushing yards in the previous season.
Writer’s prediction: The ‘Backs fail to keep up on offense yet again as the Horned Frogs (-7.5) win, 38-27.
BYU Cougars vs. Utah Utes (Sep. 10, 7:30 PM ET)

The Cougars of Brigham Young gave head coach Kalani Sitake a debut to remember, eking out a tense 18-16 team over the Arizona Wildcats this past weekend. The team’s one-two punch of Taysom Hill (202 yards on 21-of-29 passing, one TD) and Jamaal Williams (162 rushing yards) was sharp, but the two will need to put up more points on the scoreboard if they are to win their second road contest in as many weeks.
BYU’s offense will certainly face great adversity this Saturday night, though, as Utah had just blanked another interstate opponent in Southern Utah, 24-0, thanks to an impenetrable defense that saw a breakout game from Marcus Williams. The junior safety was all over the field, picking off a pass as well as forcing and recovering a fumble, as the Utes would go on to hold the Thunderbirds to just 158 offensive yards.
Writer’s prediction: Utah (-3.5) flexes its defensive muscle once more to contain BYU, 31-7.
