Line: Los Angeles Angels (+107) at Houston Astros (-117); total: 7.5 – view all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Angels continued their downward spiral with a 10-5 loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. The Angels had trouble stopping Jose Altuve who notched three hits and a career-best five RBIs for Houston. The Angels have now lost four of their last five games as they dropped down to a tie with the Astros for first place in the American League West.
[sc:MLB240banner ]For the Angels to regain the top spot later tonight, they need a strong pitching performance from Garrett Richards (10-7, 3.25 ERA). He took the loss in his last start against the Twins on Thursday after allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over eight innings. The right-hander has been going deep into games lately, lasting at least 7.2 innings in four of his past five appearances. The Angels are 3-2 during this stretch.
The Astros, on the other hand, will counter with Lance McCullers (4-3, 2.60 ERA). The Astros have lost four of their last six games with McCullers as their starter. He was solid in his last start, though, allowing just two runs on six hits in five innings of work in Houston’s 5-4 victory over Boston on July 23.
The Astros are 6-1 in their last seven home games against the Angels.

Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Oakland Athletics (+255) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-305); total: 6.0 – view all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Dodgers stumbled to their third consecutive defeat on Tuesday with a 2-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics. The Dodgers had no answer for Sonny Gray who pitched a masterful three-hit shutout for Oakland. They will look to get their season back on track when they face the A’s in the final game of their two-game set.
Pitching for the Dodgers this evening is ace Clayton Kershaw (8-6, 2.51 ERA). Kershaw was simply phenomenal in his last start against the New York Mets, allowing just three hits in another complete-game shutout. With that virtuoso performance, he has now extended his scoreless streak to a whopping 29 innings.
The A’s, on the other hand, will have Jesse Chavez on the mound tonight. Oakland is 1-4 in Chavez’s last five starts. He struggled mightily in his last outing, allowing four runs on eight hits in just three innings of action in Oakland’s 9-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants.
The A’s are 4-0 in their last four meetings with the Dodgers.
