Cleveland Indians vs. Texas Rangers (8:05 PM ET)
Line: Cleveland Indians (+140) at Texas Rangers (-155); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
Cleveland’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Indians suffered a humiliating 9-1 defeat to the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. It was another disappointing setback for the Indians who have now lost three of their last five games. Their lead atop the AL Central is now down to just six games.Offense has been the main problem for Cleveland of late, with the Indians scoring just a single run in each of their last two outings. The onus then is on Josh Tomlin (11-7, 4.39 ERA) to deliver a solid start for the Indians tonight. The 31-year-old struggled mightily in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, surrendering six runs on nine hits and a walk in just 4.1 innings of action. Tomlin surrendered three long balls in that contest.
The Rangers, on the other hand, will have Cole Hamels (13-4, 2.80 ERA) as their starting pitcher tonight. The lefty will be looking to notch his first career win against the Indians tonight. Hamels is 0-2 with a 7.41 ERA in three starts against Cleveland. The 32-year-old veteran is 4-2 with a 4.05 ERA in 11 home starts this season.
The Indians are 7-3 in their last 10 road games against the Rangers. They are pegged at +600 to win the World Series this year.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas (-155) wins, 6-4.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (+120) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-130); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games with a thrilling 1-0 victory Wednesday over the San Francisco Giants. Rich Hill pitched six shutout innings for the Dodgers who moved three games clear of the Giants atop the NL West standings. The Dodgers will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Giants in the final game of their three-game set.
Pitching for the Dodgers in this series finale is Ross Stripling (3-4, 4.04 ERA). The talented right-hander will be making his first start against the Giants tonight since hurling 7.1 innings of no-hit ball against them in his MLB debut on April 8. Stripling has been solid for Los Angeles of late, posting a 3.71 ERA in his three August starts.
The reeling Giants, on the other hand, will have Matt Moore (7-10, 4.18 ERA) as their starting pitcher tonight. He has struggled mightily with his command since joining San Francisco, allowing 17 walks in 23 innings for the club. The left-hander gave up three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings in his last outing against the New York Mets. Moore owns a 4.70 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through four starts for the Giants.
The Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 home games against the Giants. They are pegged at +950 to win the World Series this year.
