A big test awaits the Oilers later tonight in Washington. Connor McDavid and company will run into the Capitals, who bounced back from a two-game skid by laying out Philadelphia in a 4-1 victory on Wednesday.
The Oilers are coming off a 4-3 win at the expense of Florida also on Wednesday and with four wins in their last five games, there shouldn’t be a lack of confidence for these Oilers, who defeated Washington in the first meeting on October 26, 4-1.
Edmonton can’t afford to be overconfident as the Caps are very much capable of obliterating any team with either their offense or defense. Washington is second in the league in goals for per game and tops in goals against.
Writer’s Prediction: Washington (-210) splits the regular season series with Edmonton with a 4-2 win.
Calgary Flames vs. Florida Panthers (7:30 PM ET)

The Panthers are looking for a fresh start after seeing their five-game win streak end in a 4-3 loss to the Oilers on Wednesday. The loss unfortunately shadowed the excellent penalty killing of Florida, which hasn’t allowed a power play goal in its last five games, snuffing all of their opponents 12 opportunities on the man advantage during that stretch.
That solid effort from the Panthers’ special teams should come in handy against Calgary, which is 12th in the league in power play percentage. Calgary beat the Panthers on Jan. 17, going 2-for-4 on the man advantage in a 5-2 victory.
Writer’s Prediction: Florida (-160) wins, 3-2.
Arizona Coyotes vs. Dallas Stars (8:30 PM ET)

There’s room for minor miracles to happen for the Coyotes and the Stars to make the playoffs. Both team will try to go one step close towards that goal in a meeting later tonight. Arizona was handed a beating by Chicago Thursday night but it has managed tocome up with surprises lately. They beat teams like Anaheim, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and San Jose this February.
The Stars have massively underwhelmed this season and it’ll take more than a 4-3 overtime win against Tampa Bay on Saturday to shift attitudes towards Dallas, which has won just twice in its last nine outings.
Writer’s Prediction: Arizona wins, 4-3.
