Betting on the Boston College Eagles (odds)
Record: 4-15 Overall / 2-11 Conference
Boston College is coming off back-to-back losses to the Florida State Seminoles (93-64) on Mar. 3 and to the Miami Hurricanes (80-76) on Mar. 5, both on the road. Despite their bad record in the regular season and lack of wins against quality opponents, the Eagles can still come across as a tricky team to deal with, primarily because of their ultra-reliance on the 3-point shot. They are always capable of breaking away with their shooting or cutting big leads in a hurry. Boston College even lost by just the slimmest of margins to Duke back in January in Durham, 83-82, after going 9 pf 16 from behind the arc. On the season, Boston College is 22nd in the nation with 39.0 percent of their total points coming from outside shots. The Eagles are 23rd in the nation with 9.4 threes per game on 27.9 attempts from deep. The Eagles have also shot 42.0 percent from the 3-point area over their last three games.
Boston College is 2-0-1 against the spread in its last three games overall.
Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 11-11 Overall / 9-9 Conference
Duke hasn’t been helping its own chances to make the Big Dance, as the Blue Devils have lost all of their last three games in the regular season, punctuating it with an embarrassing 91-73 road loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels last Saturday. Duke’s offense was off in that game, shooting just 40.6 percent from the field and going a horrendous 5 of 27 from behind the arc. But there’s still plenty of hope that Duke can get its offense going against Boston College. For one, the Eagles have arguably the worst defense in the ACC. The Eagles are allowing 111.4 points per 100 possessions, 15th in the conference, and also 15th in scoring defense with 79.2 points surrendered per contest in ACC play. Duke can also expect to get extra possessions against the turnover-prone Eagles, who are 155th nationally with a 16.3 turnover percentage.
Duke is 9-1 straight up and 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 meetings with Boston College.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 82-70.
